Woman Faces Multiple Charges After Running Over Person

Hit and run accidents are often serious. Because drivers are supposed to stop after being involved in a crash, these accidents are morally wrong as well as illegal.
A Passaic County woman has been arrested after allegedly running over another person with her vehicle, according to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.
On December 3, officers responded to the area of Grand Street and Dale Avenue in Paterson after receiving reports that someone had been hit by a car. When police arrived, they found a woman who had been run over and had suffered significant injuries. She was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
Investigators learned that the victim had earlier been involved in a minor crash with another driver. Authorities say the victim followed a Honda HR-V that allegedly hit her vehicle and fled the scene. When the victim stepped out of her car to confront the driver, the Honda allegedly ran her over before speeding away again.
The suspect was later located at a residence in Paterson. She was taken into police custody and faces numerous criminal charges, including aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, and endangering an injured victim. She also faces multiple traffic offenses such as reckless driving and failure to report an accident. The woman was transported to the Hudson County Jail pending court proceedings.
Hit and Run in New Jersey
A hit and run accident occurs when a driver leaves the scene of a crash without stopping, exchanging information, or helping anyone who may be injured. New Jersey takes these cases seriously, and penalties can be extremely severe, especially when someone is injured.
A driver must legally stop after any crash involving:
- Injury or death.
- Property damage.
- A pedestrian or cyclist.
- A parked or unattended vehicle.
At the minimum, the driver must:
- Immediately stop at or near the scene.
- Provide identification and insurance information.
- Call police if someone is injured.
- Offer reasonable assistance, such as calling 911.
Failing to do any of these can result in a hit and run violation.
Hit and run crashes are so serious because leaving the accident scene:
- Delays medical care for victims.
- Obstructs investigations.
- Prevents officers from assessing impairment.
- Signals intent to evade responsibility.
Even if the driver is never located, victims may be able to recover compensation through uninsured motorist insurance.
