Unlicensed Juvenile Kills 2 in 100+ MPH Crash

SpeedingOdometer

Nobody should be driving at speeds over 100 miles per hour unless they’re a race car driver. An unlicensed minor did and he ended up crashing and killing two people.

The fatal accident occurred on the evening of March 7. The juvenile driver hit speeds of 118 mph while in a 35 mph zone. The driver was eluding police before he slammed into another vehicle in Toms River.

Two people were killed in the crash. Two passengers in the other vehicle are in critical condition

The juvenile faces charges of aggravated manslaughter.

Toms River police were trying to stop the vehicle after it was seen speeding eastbound over the Thomas A. Mathis Bridge. The driver went north on Route 35 and that was when police broke off the chase. Later, Seaside Heights police spotted the car going 118 mph in a 35 mph zone on southbound Route 35. A short time later, the car crashed into another car at the intersection of routes 37 and 166.

Both the driver and front seat passenger in the other vehicle died at the accident scene. Two backseat passengers in that vehicle suffered serious injuries and were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. They are currently in critical condition.

The juvenile driver was not injured in the crash. However, he had two passengers who were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

Besides manslaughter, the juvenile driver also faces charges of aggravated assault causing bodily injury,  two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of death by auto, two counts of causing death while driving unlicensed, two counts of causing injury while driving unlicensed, eluding police, and four counts of assault by auto. He is currently in custody at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.

Dangers of Unlicensed Drivers

Unlicensed drivers pose significant risks to themselves and others on the road. Here are some dangers associated with them:

  • Lack of proper training. Without formal driver education and testing, unlicensed drivers may lack essential skills and knowledge of traffic laws, increasing the risk of accidents.
  • Higher accident rates. Studies show that unlicensed drivers are more likely to be involved in crashes due to reckless or uninformed driving.
  • Hit and run accidents. To avoid legal consequences, unlicensed drivers are more likely to flee accident scenes, leaving victims without help.
  • No insurance coverage. Most unlicensed drivers do not carry auto insurance, meaning victims of accidents may struggle to receive compensation for damages and injuries.

Only licensed drivers should be behind the wheel. Unlicensed juveniles do not have the training or experience to drive safely. They can cause serious injuries or death, as seen in this case.
