Drunk Driver Crashes Into Burger King

Crashed

Driving while intoxicated is a dangerous activity as well as a serious crime. A person accused of drunk driving can cause injuries to themselves and others as well as extensive property damage.

Fortunately, a recent drunk driving crash in New Jersey did not injure anyone, but it did cause significant damage to a fast food restaurant.

The accident happened in the early morning hours of June 7 at the Burger King located on Finderne Avenue in Bridgewater.

A drunk driver, identified as a 25-year-old man from Manville, was driving on the road when he veered off the road and crashed his pickup truck into the Burger King. His truck smashed through the wall of the building.

The crash forced the restaurant’s dining room to temporarily close as repairs are made. The building has since been boarded up, with visible damage inside the dining area.

Signs on the door say indoor service is temporarily closed. However, the drive-thru is still open to customers. The dining room was expected to be shut down at least throughout the week.

While the damage was significant, nobody was injured in the crash. The driver was arrested and issued multiple citations, including one for having an open container of alcohol in his truck.

Drunk Driving and Building Crashes

Drunk driving significantly increases the risk of vehicles leaving the roadway and crashing into homes, businesses, and other structures. These incidents often cause catastrophic injuries, extensive property damage, and fatalities because buildings are not designed to withstand the force of a moving vehicle.

Alcohol impairs nearly every skill needed to drive safely, including:

  • Reaction time: Intoxicated drivers are slower to respond to curves, traffic signals, and hazards.
  • Judgment: Drivers may misjudge speed, distance, or the location of turns and drive directly off the road.
  • Coordination: Impaired motor skills can make it difficult to steer or brake properly.
  • Vision: Alcohol can cause blurred vision and reduced peripheral awareness.
  • Decision-making: Intoxicated drivers are more likely to speed, ignore traffic laws, and take unnecessary risks.

As a result, drunk drivers are more likely to lose control of their vehicles and strike buildings near roadways.

Drunk driving accidents frequently involve vehicles crashing into:

  • Restaurants and retail stores
  • Homes and apartment buildings
  • Gas stations and convenience stores
  • Office buildings
  • Schools and daycare centers
  • Government buildings
  • Parked structures, garages, and storage facilities

These crashes often occur during late-night and early-morning hours when alcohol-related driving incidents are more common. Note that because these cases can involve significant damages and multiple victims, insurance coverage disputes are common.
