Actor Dylan Walsh, Family Involved in New Jersey Car Accident

Vehicles are no joke. They are large and powerful and can cause a lot of damage. In an instant, anyone can be involved in a serious car accident. Even actors and other celebrities can be seriously harmed in such crashes.

Actor Dylan Walsh — best known for his role in the popular medical drama Nip/Tuck — and his family were involved in a solo-vehicle crash on the evening of August 17 in Rumson, New Jersey, near the Jersey Shore. The family was en route to a family event when the crash happened. They were driving northbound on East River Road in a Ford Explorer when the vehicle suddenly veered into the southbound lane for unknown reasons. It crashed through one utility pole and slammed into another.

There were five people in total inside the SUV — the 61-year-old actor, his wife, and three children. Two people were taken to Riverview Medical Center after experiencing pain, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities were unable to confirm who was driving or exactly which of Walsh’s children were in the vehicle. The actor has five children. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

As a result of the accident, eight local residents lost power temporarily. The area was closed for two days while Jersey Central Power & Light crews tended to the damaged utility poles. Power service has since been restored, and the utility poles have been replaced.

According to a family representative, everyone is safe and has since returned home. The family expressed deep gratitude to the Rumson Police, Fire Department, EMS, staff at Riverview Medical Center, and the team at The River Point Inn for their support in the immediate aftermath.

Walsh’s wife, Leslie Bourque-Walsh, shared heartfelt messages in now-deleted Facebook posts. She credited seatbelts and airbags with saving lives and extended heartfelt thanks to first responders and nearby bystanders. In one post, she recalled how a manager at The River Point Inn staff comforted their children with reassuring gestures, ice bags, and bottled water.

The crash remains under investigation. The Ford Explorer was totaled in the crash and Walsh’s wife mentioned that she and the family were sad to say goodbye to it, as it held many memories.

Solo-vehicle accidents involving utility poles can often lead to serious injuries. Fortunately, it does not appear as though anyone was harmed, as no details were disclosed regarding injuries.
