Most Dangerous Dog Breeds in New Jersey

America loves dogs. More than 65 million households in the country own at least one dog. But while many of us consider these canines to be man’s best friend, victims of dog bites know that this statement is far from the truth.
Any dog can bite when provoked, with children facing the highest risk of a dog attack. A new study reveals the 10 most dangerous dog breeds in the United States. These are breeds that could land someone in the hospital or even in court. The study, conducted by Fighter Law, determined the most dangerous dog breeds in New Jersey and all around the country.
Not surprisingly, the study found that the pit bull is the most dangerous breed. Over a three-year period, pit bulls accounted for more than 25% of reported dog bites as well as 61 fatalities.
Pit bulls were determined to be the most dangerous breed, with no other breed coming close. Rounding out the top three most dangerous dogs are Shepherd breeds (excluding German Shepherds) and boxers. Shepherds caused 10% of all reported dog bites, with two reported fatalities. Boxers caused just under 2% of all bites, and one fatality.
Rottweilers were also considered deadly, causing seven deaths over the three-year period.
The rest of the Top 10 most dangerous dog breeds are German shepherd, Australian cattle dog, Cane Corso, Doberman Pinscher, Mastiff, and Labrador retriever. Labrador retriever may be a surprise to many, but the survey uncovered some interesting information, such as even “family-friendly” dogs can bite. It was also determined that the vaccination rates of dogs are very low.
What Makes a Dog Dangerous?
A dog is deemed dangerous when its actions, such as biting or attacking others, put the public or other animals at risk of injury or death. Some breeds, like pit bulls, have been historically bred for fighting or guarding, which is what makes them so dangerous. There are also owners who train their dogs to be aggressive, further increasing the risk of danger.
A dog’s temperament and behavior are also considered. Dogs that have a history of biting or attacking are considered dangerous. Unpredictability is also a factor. Dogs that show little or no warning before biting and are inconsistently aggressive are at the highest risk of being euthanized.
Environmental factors can also play a role. Dogs that are neglected, starved, or abused are more likely to develop behavioral problems, including aggression. Dogs that have minimal interaction with humans are more likely to attack.
