Driver Suffers Medical Emergency, Causes Fiery Crash

FieryCrash

In just an instant, a person can lose control of their vehicle while driving and cause a fiery crash. Car fires can spread quickly, causing a lot of damage. Without someone there to help, a car fire can turn into a tragedy.

Fortunately, when this happened in New Jersey, a quick-thinking Good Samaritan sprang into action. That man, who was waiting in line to get gas at the time of the crash, is now being credited for saving the driver’s life.

The Good Samaritan was at a Costco gas station parking lot in Edison on the morning of June 3. He was ready to fill up his tank when he saw another driver crash in front of a Petsmart. The out-of-control SUV had gone around a corner, jumped the curb, hit a concrete foundation, and smashed into a billboard near the intersection of Route 27 and Vineyard Road.

The man didn’t even think twice. When he saw what happened, he called 911, jumped out of his car and ran toward the accident. When he saw flames erupt from the hood of the crashed car, he knew he had to act quickly.

The Good Samaritan was the first person to get to the crashed car, but the driver was trapped. Fortunately, he was able to get to the car before the flames started. But the flames were so intense that they burned a billboard.

The man was scared. He was able to open the vehicle but the driver was strapped. He struggled to unbuckle the seatbelt.

Smoke started to engulf the Good Samaritan. He saw flames coming out of the hood of the car. Despite the impending fire, the man never gave up and got the driver out of the SUV before police and emergency personnel arrived. Without his heroism and quick thinking, the situation would have no doubt been tragic.

The driver, identified as a 75-year-old man from New Jersey, suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his vehicle. The Good Samaritan was surprised the man survived after seeing him drive erratically just before the accident. He said the driver was at full speed, hitting the concrete foundation straight on. He hit a bunch of cones, the tires were skidding, and the vehicle even went airborne at one point.

The Good Samaritan suffered from smoke inhalation. An ambulance came to check out the driver, but he refused medical attention.
