2 Injured in Morris County Crash

_CarCrash2

A recent crash left two people injured. The accident occurred in Morris County on the afternoon of February 3.

Mount Olive police were called to Route 206 in the Flanders section of town after receiving reports of a car accident. A Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 38-year-old Texas man, collided with a Toyota Corolla, driven by a 22-year-old Hopatcong woman. The cause of the crash is unknown.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries in the crash and were both taken to Morristown Medical Center. Their current conditions are unknown. Route 206 was closed in both directions for close to three hours for accident cleanup.

Causes of Serious Injuries in Car Accidents

Car accidents can cause people to suffer severe injuries in the following ways:

  • High-speed collisions. Speed increases the force of impact. At higher speeds, the body experiences more violent movement, leading to traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, internal organ damage, and severe fractures.
  • Head-on collisions. These crashes involve extreme force because two vehicles moving in opposite directions collide. They often result in life-threatening injuries, including chest trauma, head injuries, and multiple broken bones.
  • Side-impact accidents. When a vehicle is struck from the side, occupants have less protection. These crashes commonly cause pelvic injuries, rib fractures, internal bleeding, and head trauma.
  • Rollover accidents. Rollovers often lead to crushing injuries, spinal trauma, ejection from the vehicle, and fatal head injuries, especially when seat belts are not worn.
  • Distracted driving. Texting, eating, or adjusting navigation systems reduces reaction time and increases the likelihood of high-impact crashes that cause serious injuries.
  • Drunk or drug-impaired driving. Impairment slows reflexes and decision-making, leading to severe collisions with devastating injuries, including brain damage and permanent disability.
  • Failure to wear seat belts. Unrestrained passengers are far more likely to suffer severe head, neck, and spinal injuries, or be ejected from the vehicle entirely.
  • Vehicle defects. Brake failures, tire blowouts, steering malfunctions, and airbag defects can directly cause or worsen serious injuries during crashes.
  • Poor road conditions. Potholes, debris, inadequate signage, and slick surfaces increase crash risk and injury severity.

Common injuries include:

  • Whiplash
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Spinal cord and back injuries
  • Broken bones
  • Internal injuries and organ damage
  • Chest injuries
  • Cuts, lacerations, and burns
  • Knee and leg injuries
  • Soft tissue injuries

Do not overlook psychological injuries. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and driving-related phobias commonly follow serious accidents.
