Personal injuries that occur in the workplace are all too common.  Work-related accidents are a constant peril for workers in many industries.  They can be occurrences such as construction accidents, ladder and scaffolding accidentsmotor vehicle accidents as well as slip and fall accidents, to name but a few. These incidents can also lead to countless dollars in lost productivity and workers’ compensation claims. High-risk Industries in Morris County & Sussex County

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has provided some very useful information in the area of workplace injuries.  Injuries are reported for each year and per 100 workers:

  • Nursing and residential care facilities workers have a surprisingly high rate of work-related injuries. The private sector of these industries runs about 6.5 injuries per 100 workers. However government-run have a shockingly high rate of 11.7 per 100 workers.

  • The animal production industry, which includes workers who raise, feed and slaughter animals, also has a high rate of injury for its workers.  They averaged 6.6 injuries per 100 workers.

  • Professional messengers and couriers, though a relatively small industry, average 6.4 injuries per 100 workers.

  • Wood product manufacturing workers who work in plants and factories where wood products are assembled from logs have an injury rate of 5.9 per 100 workers

  •  The air transportation industry, which consist of pilots, aircraft mechanics an cargo freight agents, suffer 5.8 injuries per 100 workers.

Though not listed in the top categories there are other professions that always carry a higher risk of injuries such as construction, law enforcement and fire control. That being said work-related accidents happen in literally every profession. If someone you know is injured while carrying out work related duties it is important to know what your options are and what should be done next.

What should I do if Injured in a Work-Related Accident in Haptacong or anywhere in NJ?

It is recommended that anytime you are injured you seek medical help immediately.  Injuries can be tricky and may not seem serious right away.  Delayed effects are common and are the primary reason most people don’t seek the medical help they need after a workplace accident.  They may feel they can power through.  Additionally there may be some level of embarrassment that the incident happened at all.  Also a desire not to seem weak can cause people to want to “walk it off” so to speak.

Being that most of us are not doctors, you may not know the full extent of your injuries.  How you “feel” immediately after the accident may not tell how badly you are actually injured. So contacting a doctor for a full examination of your injuries is the best course of action.

After seeking appropriate medical care it is an excellent idea to contact a skilled and experienced personal injury and workers’ compensation attorney as soon as you can.  Just as most of us are not doctors, most people are not lawyers and may not know the full extent of their rights and what they are entitled in regards to and as compensation for their injuries.
