Man Injured in Motorcycle Accident on NJ Turnpike

Motorcycle7

Many people enjoy riding motorcycles, especially this time of year when the weather is warm and sunny. However, dangers still lurk on New Jersey’s roadways. A bad maneuver by the rider, poor driving by other motorists, or hazard on the roadway could cause a motorcycle to lose control at any time, causing a serious accident.

This was recently the case in New Jersey. A man was seriously injured in a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike just after midnight on July 12.

New Jersey State Troopers responded to a report of a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike North at the Interchange 11 ramp. A 38-year-old Perth Amboy man was traveling north on the Interchange 11 ramp. He was riding a Ducati motorcycle when he lost control and veered off the road. The motorcycle then hit a metal post and overturned.

The impact caused the man to be ejected from the motorcycle. He was hospitalized with serious injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. There is no additional information available at this time.

Loss of Control on a Motorcycle

Losing control of a motorcycle can be a terrifying and dangerous event. It often results in serious injuries or fatalities. It can occur for various reasons, such as the following:

  • Road hazards (such as gravel, potholes, oil, or wet pavement)
  • Mechanical failure (such as brake issues, tire blowouts, throttle problems)
  • Speeding or overcorrection
  • Rider inexperience
  • Impairment or fatigue

The motorcycle is not always the one at fault. In many cases, other motorists are to blame. For example, many motorcycles are involved in accidents involving lane changes. That’s because motorcycles are much smaller than passenger vehicles, so larger vehicles will often change lanes without noticing that a motorcycle is already in the lane.

Motorcycles can also be unpredictable. While some riders drive safely, many do not. They may speed or split lanes, causing serious accidents.

If someone else contributed to the loss of control, you may have grounds for a personal injury claim. Possible liable parties include other motorists, as well as local or state governments (if there are road defects) or motorcycle or parts manufacturers (if there is defective equipment).

If you were injured in a motorcycle accident due to loss of control, a lawyer can help investigate the cause. If they can establish that someone else was liable, you can file a claim and pursue compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, and possibly other damages.
